I dedicate this article to all the bookworms out there.
If you are one who loves to read books but doesn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars to purchase them, then this article is for you.
Take a look below and find out ways to read books at cheaper costs.
1. Visit libraries
If you’re a book lover, a public library is your ultimate destination. Public libraries have a huge collection of books and the library card is the ticket to enter your dream world. If you have a good library near your house take full advantage of it.
2. Borrow books
It’s the best way to read books without spending a penny. If you want to read a particular book, ask your friends or relatives if they have it or not. Or, if you have a friend who has a variety of books, borrow and read as many books as you can. Keep the book in good condition so that your friend don’t hesitate to lend it next time.
3. Buy paperback books
Paperback books generally cost $5 to $6 less than their hardback copies.
You can save quite a good amount of money in the long run if you purchase paperback versions of books.
4. Get digital books
Though it’s a different feeling to hold a book in your hand and read it, an e-book is the best option when money is limited.
Some of the book-reading apps and formats are Kindle, Nook, iBooks, Google Play books, Overdrive, ePub, and PDF.
5. Listen to audio books
If you want to keep both your hands free for some other work, listen to audio books. Though you won’t actually read a book, you’ll listen to what is written. This way you can enjoy a good book while driving, cooking, working out, cleaning dishes and clothes, and so on.
Sources of audio books are Audible, e-Libraries, Downpour, Scribd, Hoopla, Librivox, OpenCulture, and Internet Archive.
6. Get used books
If you’re a thrifty reader, buying secondhand books can save your precious dollars.
Online Sellars like Half.com, Powell’s Books, Alibris and Thrift Books, Yard sales, Library Book Sales are some of the places where you can get used books at low prices.
7. Purchase book directly from the author
Nowadays, most authors sell their books themselves through various platforms at lower prices and sometimes provide promotional offers. Don’t miss out to take advantage of it if you’re a book lover.
