Do you know that the percentage of homeschooling is increasing by about 7% to 15% every year? Yes, it is true.
Homeschooling has certain advantages though you need to be aware of homeschooling tips and tricks to educate your children in the right way.
I thought this back-to-school time is the perfect time to discuss this matter.
But, before you decide to do homeschooling, ask yourself:
What are your reasons for homeschooling?
Make sure you have a valid reason for choosing this option.
Is it that you’re not satisfied with the mode of education at your nearby schools? What do you want your children to achieve through education? Do you want to homeschool only for a certain period?
All these answers will help you stay focused on why you want to homeschool your children.
Now that you’ve decided, here are a few homeschooling tips and aspects for you:
Preschooling can be homeschooling
You can decide to keep your little ones at home and start their education in their comfort zone. To do so, start by reading to them loudly. You will find such books at the libraries and stores.
Once your child is two and half years of age, show them the books and read to them.
A child starts picking up language from the mother’s womb.
Make it a fun activity instead of a serious one
Instead of making it a boring affair, try to make it a fun activity. I know that being a parent and teacher at the same time is not an easy affair.
However, it’s not that difficult, too.
Moreover, you can use this opportunity to learn new things to teach your children. Why not learn Spanish and teach your children at the same time?
The experienced teachers say that the best way to learn is to teach someone. If you’re able to teach a person something, you know that you’ve mastered that subject.
Evaluate the financial aspect of homeschooling
If you are thinking that in this age of the rising cost of education, homeschooling is a much cheaper alternative, wait for a moment! It may not be so all the time.
Just think for a moment! When you decide to homeschool, one parent needs to be at home, who will be the primary educator.
Then, you calculate the cost of transforming a room to a home classroom since ambiance matters. Your children will be focused if an ambiance of a classroom is created.
So, what I always say – start budgeting!
Plan a budget and be ready for all the possible expenses. Don’t make the mistake of not including minute expenses. You never know, missing out $1 hundred times may count to $100. Think about it!
Get organized… No alternative to that
You have to be organized in your thoughts and activities. In the school, there are many people to take care of a curriculum, but in case of homeschooling, both of you have to do it, and sometimes, you alone.
Plan a filing system for each of the subjects and organize a library with the required books.
Also, keep a daily journal to track every day-to-day activity. It requires no mention that you’d have to evaluate monthly proceedings as well.
Before you decide to homeschool your children, make sure you check out the state requirements. For example, in the state of Washington, you need to earn at least 45 quarter units of college-level credits along with attending a Parent Qualifying Course. Also, you need to receive approval from the local superintendent of public schools.
It is also a requirement to meet a certified teacher once a week and discuss what you’re teaching so that you’re sure that you’re on the right track.
So, enjoy your homeschooling!
